Day Pond State Park

Connecticut fishermen have been flocking to Day Pond State Park for years to catch their fill of trout from the pond. Even if you are not interested in angling, there is still plenty to do at this attractive park.

Cast a line

Fishing is the main activity at Day Pond. The body of water was constructed by the Day family and used to power their sawmill in the 19th century. The water turned a wheel that powered a large upshot saw. All that is left of the mill is the foundation stones, but the pond has become a popular destination as the state keeps it well-stocked with trout.

Other activities

If you are not into fishing, Day Pond might not hold the same allure for you. Still, there is plenty to do on a day out there. A number of hiking trails wend through the property, most of which feature very gentle grades and are appropriate for all health levels. It is permitted to swim in Day Pond, but there is a fair amount of marine wildlife and swimmer's itch is a common complaint. There are no camping or overnight stay facilities available, making this a spot for day trips only.

A trip to Day Pond State Park is like a gift from Heaven for local fishermen. Coming home with a cooler full of trout as evidence of a day well-spent is the best validation of the sport, and Day Pond is a great place to make sure it happens.
