Farm River State Park

An osprey lands gracefully on a nearby rock, as the air is filled with the sound of humming insects and the lazy flow of the Farm River. Connecticut is filled with a surprising number of beautiful scenes such as this, and Farm River State Park is no exception. As Connecticut’s newest coastal State park, Farm River State Park plays host to a menagerie of wildlife as well as a beautiful expanse of river perfect for fishing, swimming, canoeing and many other water sports.

Location and size

While Farm River State Park is not the largest state park in the country or in Connecticut, for that matter, the location is absolute perfection. The 62 acre park follows the flow of the Farm river until it joins with Long Island Sound. The beautiful tidal marshes at the mouth of the river provide a delightful splash of green near the cool water. All in all, this scenic location makes this a wonderful place for fishing.

Wildlife and wildlife observation

The area is inhabited with a multitude of species of wildlife. Abundant numbers of fiddler crabs and fish make the area perfect for fishing or crabbing but also support a population of ospreys. Additionally, many small mammals and birds call Farm River State Park home. It is possible to observe all of the wildlife by hiking the trails in the park or by using the local WiFi network to see footage recorded by two cameras set up by the local university.

Farm River State Park is one of Connecticut's finest state parks. The combination of the river and Atlantic Ocean provides abundant wildlife and the possibility of water activities. No trip to Connecticut is complete without a visit to Farm River State Park.
