Housatonic Meadows State Park

Housatonic Meadows State Park is located in Sharon, in northwestern Connecticut. Named after the Housatonic River, this alcohol-free park consists of 451 acres that contain 97 campsites, many of which are positioned alongside the river under towering pine trees. Although pets are banned from the campground, they are permitted in other areas of the park if they are leashed. Admission is free, and Housatonic Meadows State Park is open year-round.
Amenities and hiking
The park offers an impressive range of features, such as a softball field, a dump station, horseshoe pits, an ice machine and a recycling center. From the middle of April until the middle of October, camping is permitted at a rate of $17 per night for state residents and $27 for non-residents. A processing fee is added to each charge. People who are interested in hiking enjoy the Pine Knob Trail; its hilly terrain stretches for three miles and meets up with the Appalachian Trail.
Water activities
Housatonic Meadows State Park is known for its many water activities. Aside from kayaking, rafting, swimming and canoeing, visitors fish for bass or trout in the Housatonic River, which is periodically restocked. One three-mile portion of the river is a fly fisher's paradise, since only that type of fishing is allowed in the area. Individuals who fish in this region must possess a Connecticut fishing license and follow catch-and-release rules. Fishing supplies and lessons are available at nearby stores.
