Indian Well State Park

Shrouded in the mystery of an old Indian legend, Indian Well State Park is one of Connecticut’s best-kept secrets. A variety of amenities and activities make this park the perfect destination for anyone seeking a little outdoor recreation and relaxation.

The legend of the well

The story is told of a secret meeting place at a waterfall for two lovers from enemy Indian tribes. When their tryst was discovered, the father of the young princess set out to attack her lover’s village. Convinced that the young brave was doomed, the princess threw herself off the waterfall and to her death. The young man, sleeping nearby, woke to the sound of her death-cry and dove in after her, only to follow her in death. The waterfall and "well," or pool, are just a short walk from a fee-free parking lot or from inside the park.
