History and geography

The park in its modern incarnation combines three previously organized territories: Mashamoquet Brook, Wolf Den and Saptree Run. Covering over 900 acres, Mashamoquet Brook State Park is named for the "stream of good fishing" described by the Mohegan tribes that once called the region home. The terrain of the park is primarily wooded, but several shores on the river are accessible for swimming and sunbathing.

Things to do

Mashamoquet Brook offers 55 campsites, open from April through Columbus Day each year; RV hookups, picnic tables and other amenities are included in the small rental fee. A number of trails crisscross the landscape, suitable for both the beginning trekkers and experienced hikers in your party. Swimming and fishing are also popular activities for you to enjoy at Mashamoquet Brook. The park houses two notable rock formations known as Table Rock and Indian Chair, and maintains a historical musuem that was once the grist mill that served the nearby city of Pomfret.
