Scantic River State Park

Scantic River State Park, located in the towns of Somers and East Windsor, Connecticut, is one of the premier archery hunting grounds in this state. It has over 167 acres of land dedicated to bow hunting of deer and turkey and does not require visitors to provide a daily permit; the park does not offer small game hunting. Although Scantic River State Park is known for its hunting, it also offer several other attractions and activities for visitors.
Other outdoor activities
The park is an excellent place for fishermen and the rivers are teeming with several species and open to fishermen at all times of the year. There are also many multi-use trails within the park. Hiking is the most common use of these trails, but they are also oftentimes traversed by mountain bikers and equestrians.
Historic sites
This park has a vast history and this alone attracts many visitors. Its name comes from a tribe of Native Americans known as the Scantuck. The nearby town of Hampden was settled in the 1840's and is home to several old mills that drove the economy of the area at one time. The mills were powered by the flow of the Scantic River and some are open for tours today.
A day spent at Scantic River State Park is never wasted. Visitors both young and old can enjoy the beautiful scenery as they hike or bike through the trails or tour the old mills. With over 180 acres to explore, the next adventure is just around the corner.
