Sherwood Island State Park

For a leisurely day of swimming, fishing and picnicking, Sherwood Island State Park is a gem of a park on the Connecticut shore of Long Island Sound. Connecticut's oldest state park, it offers hiking trails, a nature center and an observation platform for viewing wetlands flora and fauna. The whole family is sure to enjoy a visit here.

A New England experience

Sherwood Island State Park is one of only a few shoreline parks in Connecticut that offers a truly New England experience. Everything from swimming in the chilly sound to birdwatching in the wetlands is a uniquely northeast experience. The park even participates in the "Viewpoint Exhibit" program, offering reproductions of art painted in the 19th century and allowing visitors to see what the view they are enjoying looked like in earlier times. Kids and adults alike are sure to learn lots at the Nature Center, which focuses on the plants and animals visitors are likely to see in the park. Interpretive programs are available and maximize everyone's learning experience. After the program, visitors can take their kids out for a hike and watch as they identify plants and animals. Facilites include bathrooms and showers at the beach area, plenty of picnic areas and food concessions.

Sherwood Island State Park is a great day trip for the whole family. Visitors can learn something new, go for a hike, catch some fish and top it all off with a swim and a picnic! One could not ask for a better New England experience.
